I'm in San Antonio now at the NECC conference. Your project sounds very interesting. Mayb some members of this ning will share their expertise. After the conference I'll come back and look at what you are doing more closely. Glad to do what I can in your project.

About Me:
I joined this blog to request comments on a proposal I'm developing to use an "original-music incubator blog" as part of the curriculum for the online and offline course I teach at San Antonio College on "Legal Aspects of the Entertainment Industry: The Music Business," through the Music Business Program of its Radio, Television and Film Department, and also through its Continuing Education Program.

As far as I know, this may already be one of only a few of its course of its kind offered nationwide. A colleague provided information about Ning that led me to this site based on that project for the upcoming academic year.

The online version, when completed, will rely almost entirely on social networking models, both as an important topic of the music law curriculum AND a primary means of educational service delivery through a service desk blog tenatively described as follows: "The 'Help Desk' blog is a service learning component of the course where community partners refer users with music business questions and students assist users by responding to moderated inquiries with informational materials from the course. There are two basic blog topic tracks: a "Biz Beat" Blog that deals with business and transactional issues, and "Think Tank" blog that deals with policy research and development. The blog will be expanded to include additional topics as needed based on recommendations from community partners."

As an additional service learning component of the online curriculum for the continuing education course, I've tenatively decided to devote a significant amount of time the contract law and business planning modules of the course to developing a proto-type "original-music incubator blog," relying on a social networking model.

A link to the website of the Music Business Program is provided, and additional links will be provided as they become available. Interested parties are invited and encouraged to contact me at the email address provided.
